Essential reading for the Montreal owner
Review date: 2009-12-27 Rating: 8 out of 10
The cover of this book (pretty girl posing on the front of a Montreal) might lead you to expect a "coffee table" book full of nice pictures of Montreals in picturesque locations. While it does include some of the expected eye candy, the real focus is on the owning and running of a Montreal. As a potential buyer you will find the buying guide very useful if not a little off-putting. As an owner, the chapter on the Montreal's Achilles' Heels will no doubt scare you. The chapters on maintenance, repairs and modification are so in depth this could almost be considered a workshop manual. For example, being an Alfa with a detuned racing engine there are a lot of special tools required and they are all listed in the appendix so you can obtain or make your own.
In short, this book contains every bit of accumulated knowledge about the Montreal. This will be way beyond the interest of a casual enquirer but essential to an owner.
If only someone would make a similar book to cover the BMW 635Csi!

Already bought 7 copies of this wonderful book, one is on the shelf and anybody has to touch it, one is for daily advices, the other copies were a gift for particular friends loving Alfa Romeo and specially Montreal.
Giorgio Penatti.Montreal owners bibleReview date: 2008-09-10 Rating: 10 out of 10There must be few motoring books on the market as well written written and graphically excellent as Bruce Taylor's Alfa Romeo Montreal - Essential Companion. The fact that it covers one of the most mythical and misunderstood Italian cars of the seventies makes this an even more remarkable achievement. If you have even the most passing interest in these cars, you should own a copy. If you are considering buying one, it is a must!Detailed and enthusiastic account of the Alfa MontrealReview date: 2008-08-21 Rating: 8 out of 10"Alfa Romeo Montreal - the Essential Companion" is amazingly thorough and complete. In fact, I do not think I have seen a more in-depth book on one model before. This is the first and only English language book devoted to the beautiful and intriguing Alfa Montreal. The authors of many such books are motoring journalists commissioned by the publishers to write about a particular marque or model and the result is often quite passionless. In this case the author is clearly an expert with a real love for the Montreal and it shows. I have never owned or even driven a Montreal but this book makes me want to have one.
Although there could be more information on the design of the car (there are no styling renderings from Bertone or proper commentary on Marcello Gandini's other designs), the other sections on buying, restoring and maintaining a Montreal are very detailed indeed. There are also lists of chassis numbers, colour codes, models, magazine articles that have appeared worldwide and useful addresses. The text is accompanied by colour photos throughout.
Veloce Publishing offers an interesting range of motoring titles, but I have always been disappointed by the quality of the design, printing, and reproduction of the images in their books. This was particularly true of their title on the Citroen SM. "Alfa Romeo Montreal - the Essential Companion" is much better in all these respects, but it is not perfect and at this price it should be better still - this is what prevents me from giving it a 5 star rating.
